Surabaya, 22 June 2023 - The climate crisis is set to transform where youth and future generations could live and what jobs they’ll do to survive as adults in the future. The works and climate actions implemented in this decade will have impacts now and for thousands of years. And yet, despite being one of the most important issues for young people, it appears only minimally in many school science standards worldwide and access to high-quality climate education has been a privilege of the few. At the same time – according to Pearson Global Learner Survey 2021 – more than three-quarters of people worldwide are actively seeking to education themselves about climate change. On the other hand, every individual has the potential to create change, whether in their life, their community, or the planet. The transformative power of climate education is what unlocks that potential.
Back at the end of 2021, Carbon Addons, a youth-led climate-tech startup in Indonesia that strives to reduce global carbon emissions through carbon neutral platform for all, realized it was a time for a seismic shift in learning. Through Carbon Academy, a learning platform for climate and sustainability for youth and young professionals, we aimed to prepare future generations to take big contributions to the sustainability and climate-resilient ecosystems in Indonesia. By opening this learning platform, we believe that we can empower millions of learners to unlock their potential and become climate changemakers by 2030.
Carbon Addons today is thrilled to announce its nomination through Carbon Academy as a finalist for the global esteemed Green Skills Award 2023 by European Training Foundation (ETF). This prestigious recognition acknowledges the organization's innovative efforts in developing a comprehensive education platform catered to youth and young professionals, empowering them to become climate leaders of tomorrow. This nomination stands as a testament to Carbon Addons' unwavering commitment to fostering climate literacy and equipping young individuals with the skills necessary to address pressing environmental challenges.
Carbon Addons' groundbreaking education platform, Carbon Academy is designed to engage and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards. The platform offers a wide range of educational resources, interactive modules, and practical tools that empower youth and young professionals to deepen their understanding of climate change, sustainability, and the interconnectedness between environmental, social, and economic systems. We worked with UNDP and Movers Asia Pacific to pilot our first cohort of Carbon Academy with 50 promising Indonesian youth across the globe to accelerate climate action impact through sustainable business and green careers track and have seen significant impacts and improvements with 17 sustainable business ideas created and 18 green career plans developed. Through these collaborations, the organization strives to amplify its efforts and create a global network of empowered individuals dedicated to addressing climate change and building a sustainable future.

The Green Skills Award is a global initiative by European Training Foundation that was first introduced in 2021. This initiative has become a source of global good practices that can inspire people everywhere to make real change happen in creating circular and carbon-neutral economies and societies. The 2023 edition of the Green Skills Award had received almost 600 applications from 60 countries and The 10 finalists of Green Skills Award 2023 were announced on 8 June.
